I’m writing this in the first moments of 2026, as the threads of 2025 weave themselves into memory. The past year has asked a lot of me. It stretched me, softened me, reminded me of what matters, and most importantly – it brought magic in the moments I least expected it.
Looking back, I see that my word for 2025 – MAGIC – wasn’t the loud, glittery in your face kind. It was the quiet kind that shows up in trust, in tiny nudges and synchronistic opportunities that you only notice if you’re paying attention. In moments that seem ordinary but change everything when you look closely.
So before we look forward, I want to share what the past year has gifted me and maybe you’ll see some of your own reflections in there too.
My 2025 Highlights & Lessons:
- Returning to Niue
After years of delays, I finally returned home to the island and to myself. I reconnected with family, immersed in language, culture, and land and dreamed up a future vision of creating a sanctuary for our family on Niue. It was grounding, emotional, and expansive all at once. - Writing The Connected Islander
From the deck of my family home in Alofi, I voice-recorded the first draft of my book – a story of culture, identity, motherhood, and returning to wholeness. - Becoming a yoga teacher
I completed my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training after nearly four years becoming an internationally accredited yoga teacher. I then taught in Niue, at work, in women’s retreats and my circles and began to shape my own style. Yoga has become an integral part of my weekly self-care and connection practice, connecting my mind, body and soul. - Returning to full-time work + applying for a new job
2025 was my first full-time year since 2011, I’m going to lie here – it was full-on. The juggle of parenting, household, business, and work stretched me in big ways. Some days I collapsed in tears, many times I felt like a failure and so many times I wanted to give up. Yet somehow, we as a family navigated this new norm and everyone came through it thriving and flourishing. Turns out, we can do hard things! I also applied for a completely new job – a new industry, new team, new everything. If I am successful, as of January 2026, I will start a new chapter – it feels like a huge leap, but one I am ready for. - Celebrating my health
In September 2025, I received the news that my autoimmune condition is in remission, and in January I’ll begin trialling life without medication. This has been a long road since my steep health decline in 2020 – one of the quietest, hardest, and most sacred journeys I’ve walked. - Holding space – and being held
I guided over 100 women through Chakra Bliss at the Fearless Women’s Retreat, and hosted bi-monthly circles plus private circles for birthdays, hens, and workplace celebrations. I collaborated with incredible women and remembered why this work is so powerful. When women gather with intention, true magic happens. - Connecting to nature – especially the ocean
The ocean is my anchor. Whether walking, swimming or simply watching the waves, nature reminds me how to reset, recalibrate, and reconnect with what matters. - Letting go of outdated roles
I softened into change. I released the need to “do it all,” said no more often, and gave myself permission to evolve beyond the expectations I’d placed on myself. - Moving with joy and using my voice
I found so much connection through movement – especially in my local gym community. Group fitness became as much about the people as the exercise. I also protected my energy more intentionally and shared my truth without needing to polish it. I took a singing class that pushed me way out of my comfort zone. I’ve long believed I can’t sing, yet I’ve felt a growing call to use my voice – especially in my women’s work - Letting magic lead
My word for the year became a compass. Magic showed up in the trust, the timing, the quiet wins. And now, I’m learning to let that magic move me into what’s next.
Whats happening in the planets? Capricorn Season + the Energy of the New Year
January is ruled by Capricorn – grounded, focused, and steady. It’s mountain goat energy: slow, intentional, and deeply rooted.
This season isn’t about rushing. It’s about integrity. About choosing what aligns. Energetically, it’s a Root Chakra moment – a time to plant yourself. To ask: what truly supports me? This is a time to use your grounding rituals, you might even like to carry a red stone like red Jasper or wear red items of clothing to embody that grounding energy.
If you’re feeling the tug between planning everything and not knowing what’s next – you’re not alone. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Start with honesty, and build from there.
A Ritual to Reflect & Realign
Here’s a simple journaling ritual to help you reflect on the year that’s been — and start clearing space for what’s coming.
You’ll need: a notebook, pen, and 15–30 quiet minutes. Light a candle, take a few deep breaths, or put your bare feet on the earth if that feels good.
Journal on the following:
- What have I created in 2025?
- What am I ready to let go of?
- What will I create next?
Want Help Summarising Your Year? Try This Tech Trick
This is the process I used this year to help me to distill my key moments of 2025. If you’re active on Instagram or Facebook, you can run your 2025 posts through ChatGPT and ask it to summarise your year into 10 highlights. Try this prompt:
“Here are my 2025 social media posts. Please identify 10 key personal highlights or lessons from my year. Use a warm, reflective tone. Focus on emotional moments, growth, and change.”
If you dont use socials, no worries. Here’s another method I’ve used with great success in previous years:
- Scroll through your phone’s camera roll and your calendar month-by-month
- Note a few moments or milestones that stood out
- Then use this prompt in GPT:
“Based on these moments from 2025, please write a personal reflection with 10 key themes (dot point). Keep it honest, grounded and real.”
I had to re-work it a few times before I was happy with my final list but it’s an amazing process to go through and it really helps you to genuinely reflect on the year that’s been. I had forgotten about some of the things that came through so it was a lovely opportunity to sit for a moment and pat myself on the back. It was also a time to be real and acknowledge some of the pain points and challenges too.
Dreaming Into What’s Next
We don’t have to lock in a word or write a 12-step plan on 1 January.
For me, right now, I’m simply listening.
I’m playing with the energy of flow and ease for 2026. I’m not quite ready to commit to my word yet, but I know I’m craving feminine softness, trust and more space to let things unfold. I’m also exploring the possibility of finding a Niuean word or phrase that captures this feeling – something that connects me back to culture and place.
You don’t need to land your word either. Just ask: What do I want to feel more of this year? Let it come in the quiet moments and the whispers.
This blog isn’t a blueprint. It’s an invitation to pause and reflect. To gather the wisdom of what’s been and clear the way for what’s next.
