It’s been just almost 3 weeks since we landed back in Perth, and re-commenced life in the city. 21 days of work, school, sport, traffic and the constant hum of busyness. Only this morning, my hubby and I reflected on how fast the pace of life seems here, versus on the island. How can it be that in one location time feels spacious and stretches out in front of you, and in another location it feels as time races by in a blur?
So much happened on the island and I know now is the time to allow it to integrate. Because with these big openings come opportunities to ground deeper into my sense of self, purpose and direction. I also understand the opportunity here to release what no longer serves, and I invite you to do the same.
Niue represented so much for me. A chance to realise a long awaited goal of landing back on the island (good things do come to those who wait!), connection with family and friends and learning more about their journeys, an appetite to learn more about traditional rituals and practices (bush medicine, traditional music, food, language). It was where I voice recorded all the chapters of my book ‘The Connected Islander. I taught yoga, embraced the cultural activities and immersed myself in nature.
But now is the time to put some of these experiences into practice. I’ve been reminded again that the work is right here where we are. Sometimes we wish to be away, to be on a retreat or somewhere else and then we can be ourselves and be true. But I’ve realised if I can be me here, right in amongst all of life, this is the ultimate goal. I can choose to own, I can choose to release. It’s all in my power.
Now welcome the energies of Scorpio season and the invitation to go deeper. This season asks the hard questions of us. We may be confronted with the less pleasant aspects of ourselves, we may be confronted with conflict. We may be forced to face a situation we’ve been avoiding. The beauty of this shadow work is there is an opportunity for growth, letting go and welcoming emotional rebirth. As we know, growth comes from discomfort.
At this point, I invite you to ponder these ideas:
- Where have you been holding on out of habit or fear?
- How do you move through the discomfort of letting go?
- What shadow parts of yourself have you made peace with lately?
The island taught me some clear lessons on letting go. Some subtle, some not so subtle!
1. Sometimes a pause is required – you may have seen on my socials that I rolled my ankle out the back of the family home and ended up off my feet for approx 1.5 weeks. This was initially incredibly frustrating, but as I sunk into the lesson, I realised I needed to let go and be at peace with the forced pause. It also granted me space to write my book, rest and take time to be present. Even after my ankle felt better, I was so much more in tune with where I placed my feet on the ground, I was much more present in my movement and connection to my activities.
2. Everyone has a story – this lesson came home to me so strongly whilst on the island. Talking to many different people, re-connecting with family and just generally observing behaviour helped me to see that we all have a story to tell, and everyone is forging their own path the best way they know how. It’s important to remember though, that you need to let people live their own story and focus on keeping true to your own path.
3. Spiritual hygiene is very important – especially if you’re sensitive to energy or working closely with others in a healing or support space Not all energy is pure and it’s important to have rituals and practices that facilitate a cleansing of your energy and your space (e.g. home, car, workplace).
4. Have simple grounding techniques that you can access anywhere, anytime – this might be simply putting your bare foot on the earth, swimming or immersing yourself in water. Using cleansing tools like sage, instruments or salt. Keep earthy crystals like carnelian or red jasper in your pockets when you feel like you need to anchor yourself.
5. Channel your creativity – so often we tell ourselves we are not creative, yet creativity can come in so many forms. It might be joining a singing class, doodling for fun, making a new dish and presenting it beautifully. It can also mean taking on creative projects like writing, poetry, and making music. The sacral chakra invites you to channel your feminine energy through creativity and flow. It helps to move emotions, unblock stress and create more joy in your life.
Returning home has been all about integration. At first I felt like a fish out of water, like my feet were barely touching the ground. I felt like life was moving at an unsustainable pace – the physical world felt loud, intense, and overwhelming. Gradually, and with lots of kindness towards myself, I have used little rituals to help me to anchor back. In particular, I had to call my energy back from the island, I had to reduce my energetic bubble (as when I was away, my aura expanded with all the space, but in the city it needs to be closer to my body for simply self protection). I’ve also been journaling and returning back to my vision and key goals or choices I created recently, to help me to determine which actions to take and where my energy should flow.
With this time of integration and releasing for me, I want to invite you to join me in your own reflection. You may like to sit with these prompts, or grab your journal and free write:
- What am I holding onto that is ready to be released?
- What emotions or stories keep resurfacing, asking to be witnessed?
- What version of myself am I ready to let go of?
- Where do I need more grounding in my life right now?
- How can I honour my creativity or emotions more gently?
Remember, this journey isn’t about forcing change but allowing it. Sometimes things happen that feel out of your control – moments that shake you, unravel you, or pull you in unexpected directions. But transformation doesn’t demand urgency. It asks for honesty, softness, and trust.
As I continue this process of letting go and visioning what’s next, I’d love to hold space for you to do the same. If you’re feeling ready to release and begin visioning what’s next, I’d love to invite you to a free online session I’m co-hosting with Lesley-Ann Bergstrom on 4 December , 2025 (6.30-7.30am AWST) Click here to register for Visionary Woman.
